So we are trying bottles only for 48 hours to see if it helps Ms. Katelyn learn to drink better from a bottle. SHe is going surprisingly, amazingly well. She has only had 14 1/2 ounces in the last 18 hours, but she's taken it all from me in a bottle, with no fuss or complaint that it was from a bottle. Now, she certainly drinks a lot slower from the bottle, and she did have a few fussy periods, especially when she woke up from her first nap, but I found that if I could just get an ounce into her while distracting her (walking around, singing, standing in front of the TV,) then she's calm down for the second ounce.
Now, she's coming off of 8 straight days of nursing so being a little hungry probably isn't too uncomfortable, so we'll see how tomorrow goes. However, tonight has gone well so far - she went to sleep at 9:45 and woke up at 4:45 and then drank four onces from a bottle in 45 minutes (including a diaper change). There were many times in this feeding that she automatically turned her head into nurse (she didn't go that yesterday) and I felt bad - but that was me because she didn't fuss or cry or refuse the bottle, she just turned her head in a few times... I can't wait to get back to nursing. Such a special closeness that I just don't feel with the bottle...
