Getting schooled

Geoffrey just spent 5 minutes teaching me how to sing "open, shut them." apparently I wasn't extending my arms out far enough "like miss Lisa showed us. "

Oh well, my reward for finally getting it correct? I got to get in the box! "laying in the box, oh so still. Won't you come out? Mommy will!"

Fress

So Geoffrey has an imaginary friend. He is a boy ghost named fress. Today when grant and geoff went to the store, fress went with them. Geoff talked about him to grant.

Fress sleeps with Geoffrey but only for half the night.

His ghost goes potty and rides in the car. He farts, too.

Fress is friendly and plays with Geoffrey, and belle-dog likes him.

open sesame

We have this electric trash can that opens and closes when you get near the sensor. Geoffrey is pretty skittish about throwing stuff away in it. Today, I found him standing in front of it shouting, "Open sesame! Open sesame!"

Geoffrey

Geoff has a new way of getting attention when he's feeling needy (and he's been pretty clingy lately...) he will lay on the edge of the bed/couch/chair and say, "Mommy, help me, help me, save me!"

It's pretty funny and cute - although he usually does this when I am otherwise occupied - feeding Katelyn, putting her to bed, pumping... of course. (o:

Right now I am pumping and he said, "Are you getting milk for Katelyn? You have a lot of milk in your tummy." Ha ha!

Katelyn and sleeping

Katelyn did well last night - 9:45 - 4:45 and 5:30 - 9:50 - so 12 hours with one night waking.

I read somewhere that there is a normal sleep regression for children that falls somewhere between 2 1/2 - 4 months, because they begin to get aware of their surroundings and need to fall asleep the same way they woke up. Well, I definitely nurse Katelyn to sleep and haven't really focused on setting up healthy sleep routines - so I decided to start yesterday with the feed/book/song routine we used on Geoffrey. (I have in the past, read books and sang, just not consistently. And I ALWAYS nursed last.) I didn't hold very high hopes, what with bottles only, too, but she actually did very well! I was prepared to follow the routine, and then if needed feed her a little bit more, but for the last four times  I have put her down to sleep, I left her awake and she went to sleep on her own - actually quite quickly! So, I am happy - it is a promising start!

She's still sleeping swaddled and in her nap nanny. As long as she doesn't roll over I am fine with the swaddle, but do feel like I need to move her to the crib in a while - we can't bring the nap nanny to Hawaii!

Boob-Off Day 1

So we are trying bottles only for 48 hours to see if it helps Ms. Katelyn learn to drink better from a bottle. SHe is going surprisingly, amazingly well. She has only had 14 1/2 ounces in the last 18 hours, but she's taken it all from me in a bottle, with no fuss or complaint that it was from a bottle. Now, she certainly drinks a lot slower from the bottle, and she did have a few fussy periods, especially when she woke up from her first nap, but I found that if I could just get an ounce into her while distracting her (walking around, singing, standing in front of the TV,) then she's calm down for the second ounce.

Now, she's coming off of 8 straight days of nursing so being a little hungry probably isn't too uncomfortable, so we'll see how tomorrow goes. However, tonight has gone well so far - she went to sleep at 9:45 and woke up at 4:45 and then drank four onces from a bottle in 45 minutes (including a diaper change). There were many times in this feeding that she automatically turned her head into nurse (she didn't go that yesterday) and I felt bad - but that was me because she didn't fuss or cry or refuse the bottle, she just turned her head in a few times... I can't wait to get back to nursing. Such a special closeness that I just don't feel with the bottle...

sigh

I'm lying on one side of the bed, grant is on the other, and Geoffrey and katelyn are lying between us. Geoffrey sits up and moves my feet to the middle of the bed and moves grants feet to touch mine, forming a half circle around katelyn and him, and says, "I love all of you!" sigh...

Easter Festivities

Our Easter activities kicked off this year with a trip to Atlantis Park and their fourth annual egg-scavation. Similar to their Halloween and Christmas events, only a limited number of tickets were sold. We really enjoyed this event! The weather was cool and overcast, but we had fun anyway! Geoffrey enjoyed playing the little carnival games. They also had bounce houses. The egg hunts were split up into age groups - Geoffrey was in the 3 - 4 age range. Parents were not allowed in, which admittedly made me a little nervous at first, but was actually a good thing because it gave all of the kids a fair chance. They were also supposed to use the small paper bags they were given when they walked in, which only held a limited number of eggs - again, this helped make it fair. Geoffrey was so funny at the hunt. Since we couldn't go in, we reminded him to collect the eggs into his bag, and we would open them when we were done. Despite our briefing, he went out, found eggs, opened them, dumped the candy into his bag, and tossed the empty egg aside. Ha ha! He also got interviewed on the Garden Grove channel!

Geoffrey was able to practice his hunting skills again at his Easter Egg Hunt in Miss Lisa's class.

On Good Friday, we had our 2nd Annual Allen kids egg hunt at Joanne Love's house. We had such a good time visiting with our school friends. Joanne had rented a bounce house which was a nice added touch and we had a good time.

On Saturday, we went to Grandpa Bob and Grandma Dee Dee's house for brunch and jacuzzi time, and on Easter Sunday we had an Egg Hunt and dinner and Grandpa Gary and Nonna's house. The Magic Hider (AKA Grandma Patty and Grandpa Bobby) surprised us with some Easter presents too!

What a fun year!

Stuff

Spring Break tomorrow. Thank heavens. I am feeling completely overwhelmed. I don't feel like I am getting a handle on working/life with two kids. I am either tired, moody, or just numb.

Katelyn is not getting into the swing of things. She drinks very little from bottles and spends much of the afternoons with Grant fussy or screaming. She does fairly well with me in the evenings and on weekends, but sometimes wont let anyone but me or Danny hold her and will cry if put down. She has good periods, where she'll play - she likes being on the floor laying on her back, and in her bouncer seat the best.

She's three months now, so I hope she outgrows these crying jags soon.

Katelyn is very visual. She is already attracted by the TV and she loves watching the fish on her bouncer and the mobile on her swing. She does really well when we are out and about.

When she is happy, though, it is so much fun. I think she is going to have dimples. She LOVES to talk, and she will babble away for long periods. Very cute and fun. Sometimes she'll just give a squeal sigh of happiness that melts my heart. Sometimes when I feed her in the morning before work she'll stop eating and just look up at me for a few minutes and smile. She'll see my face in the glow of the iphone that I use to help see her latch on, and she'll just stop and make eye contact. I know she loves me so much already.

Geoffrey is being an awesome big brother. He likes to swing her and help change her. He's so patient when I need to feed her - poor guy - and does well despite Katelyn needing so much attention right now. His vocabulary is increasing and it is so fun to hear him talk "Well actually..." "We have plenty of that..." "The trash trucks are out on Beach Blvd." "This is Miss Lisa's trash." Just adorable!

Climbing mountains

When Geoffrey holds our hands and climbs up our bodies, we call it "climbing mount mama" or "climbing mount dada." just now he Asked, "can I climb mount you?"
