We have been potty training Geoff since September. We started out having Geoffrey go naked and using his elmo potty. He actually picked it up pretty quickly. At home, he uses the potty chair pretty consistenly for pee - but loved to wait until the diaper goes on for poo at nap time or bed time.
We've recently started doing underwear when we are out - and bringing several changes of clothes. He is getting better about using the big potty, but we have to take him like every 30 min. He won't tell us he has to go - until after he has went when he wears underwear and we are out. That's kind of where we are at right now.
